About Warsaw

Warsaw is the capital of Poland (became in the early 17th century) located in the central part of the country on the river Vistula. The Old Town, with its colourful houses, churches and paved streets, has been completely restored, as the city was completely destroyed during the World War II, Warsaw is often compared with a mythical creature Phoenix, which according to Greek mythology rose from the ashes.

It is fun to wander the Old Town of Warsaw and discover the most famous historical monuments. The tour of the Old Town can be started from the Castle Square and walk along the Nowy Swiat Street in the so-called the Royal Route. The Royal Route is a 11 km long path connecting three royal residences – the Royal Castle (14th century), the Palace on the Island (17th century) and the Wilanow Palace (17th century). In addition, this route also connects many historic monuments, parks and other famous buildings in Warsaw. On the Royal Route you should also stop by the Krasinki Palace and Square, the Presidential Palace, the Pilsudski Square and Saxon Gardens, the Kazimierz Palace, the Ujazdowski Castle, the Lazienki Park and the St. Anne’s Church (with stunning views of the Old Town from the tower). By the way, in Warsaw you will find more than 40 museums that can suit every taste. The most famous and highly rated are the National Museum, Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the Fryderyk Chopin Museum, the Dollhouse Museum, the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Copernicus Science Centre.

A great place for a stroll in the Old Town is the Market Square where you can find many shops, restaurants and cafes. Furthermore, there are numerous amazing parks in the Warsaw’s New Town (behind a 16th-century defensive wall). Most popular are the Multimedia Fountain Park (where music, light and sound shows take place), the Mokotow Field, the Skaryszewski Park and the Ujazdow Park. In the evenings you can relax in the cafés or restaurants and enjoy traditional Polish dishes such as “Bigos” (sauerkraut stew with sausage), “Pierogi” (dumplings with various fillings), “Nalesniki” (pancakes with filling), “Sernik Krakowski” (cheesecake) or “Oscypek” (smoked sheep cheese).
