The city is situated on a plains, flanked by salt lakes which dry in the summer, but during winter it becomes home to many birds, including pink flamingos. The eastern part of the city has great sandy beaches (Phinikoudes, Castella Beach, McKenzie Beach), resorts and hotels.

On the outskirts of the city there is an interesting structure, Kamares Aqueduct which supplied water to Larnaca until the beginning of the 20th century and west of Larnaca on the top of a cliff stands the Stavrovouni Monastery.

One of the most interesting areas of Larnaca is the Skala district. This is a former Turkish district, now a workshop for craftsmen in Larnaca. It features traditional white houses with colorful window frames. In the evenings, Larnaca’s most popular entertainment spot on the coast is Palm Avenue. It has many restaurants, cozy cafes and bars, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay and try traditional Cypriot dishes and local wine. The most popular ones are Koupepia (minced meat with rice wrapped in grape leaves) or Meze (different dishes served in small portions).
