Paris is the capital of France and the largest city in the country, located on the banks of the Seine River. The city is famous all over the world for its many historical monuments and unique culture.
Paris is a home to the world’s most glorious art treasuries and architecture. One of the most famous is the Eiffel Tower, which has become a symbol of the city. Looking north from the Eiffel Tower, on the horizon you can see the domes of the Sacre Coeur Basilica, which is built on the hill of Montmartre, and to the south from the tower you can see the Montparnasse Tower which is the tallest skyscraper in the city. To the east of the Eiffel Tower you will discover the famous Louvre Museum and the stunning Tuileries Palace gardens. Next to the Tuileries Palace gardens you will find the Champs Elysées, which is considered as one of the most beautiful avenues in the world and it leads to the Arc de Triomphe which was built for those who fought for France. The historic city centre is located on the island of Cite which is home to two most famous churches in Paris, the Notre Dame Cathedral, which was damaged by fire in April 2019, and the Sainte-Chapelle. Furthermore, Paris has many wonderful museums such as the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Georges Pompidou Cultural Centre which is the largest modern art museum in Europe, the Musée National Picasso-Paris or the Musée du Parfum. We also suggest visiting the Père Lachaise Cemetery, where famous artists are buried, and antiques lovers could look around the antique markets of the Saint-Ouen or the Marche aux Pius de Vanves.
For a day trip we suggest visiting the Fontainebleau Palace which was former royal residence and the magnificent Forest of Fontainebleau or going to the Versailles and the surrounding parks. Moreover, we recommend wandering around Paris old town, the Seine embankment or the Montmartre district, which is considered a mecca for artists. In the Montmartre district you can admire the views of vineyards from the hill or wonder around interesting shops and cafés. Furthermore, here you will find many cabaret venues, one of the most famous is the Moulin Rouge, where the cancan dance was born. While in Paris, be sure to try French wine and traditional dishes such as Escargots de Bourgogne (cooked edible land snails), Onion Soup, Foie gras (pate) and of course French cheese, chocolate and pastries.
