About Pula

Pula is the largest city in the Istrian peninsula in Croatia with a mild climate, sunny beaches and warm sea. It is a city with a deep wine-making tradition.

Pula has a beautiful old town with famous ancient Roman historical monuments that are definitely worth seeing, such as the Temple of Augustus, the Gate of Hercules, the Arch of Sergii and the impressive Pula Arena. The amphitheatre is the best preserved ancient monument in Croatia and currently hosts festivals, concerts and exhibits archaeological findings in the dungeons. In the city you can also discover beautiful churches. The most famous are the Pula Cathedral, the Church and Monastery of St. Francis, the chapel St. Mary Formosa and the Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas. In addition, there are many interesting museums in Pula such as the Archaeological museum of Istria, the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria and the Museum of Contemporary Istrian arts.

Wonderful sights can also be found outside the city. For a day trip we suggest visiting Brijuni National Park which is located in the Brijuni archipelago, near the Istrian peninsula. It is a park with beautiful scenery, lush vegetation and historical monuments such as Roman villas and the ruins of a Byzantine Castrum. The boat trips are available to two islands Veliki Brijuni and Mali Brijuni from Fasana city. For the next day trip, you can choose a trip to the coast of the Istrian peninsula, exploring cosy and charming medieval towns such as Labin, Rabac, Umag, Porec, Rovinj or Motovun. While in Croatia be sure to try traditional Croatian dishes such as Burek (flaky pastry with various fillings), Buzara (shellfish and crustaceans), Pašticada (sauerkraut), Sarma (cabbage rolls with minced meat) or local drinks such as Rakija (fruit brandy) and Pelinkovac (herbal liqueur).
