Split is a Croatian town on the eastern Adriatic coast near the Mosor Mountains, founded by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC. The city is located in the hottest region of Croatia with beautiful weather from spring to autumn.
Split is famous for it’s Roman historical monuments. Part of the Old Town is located in the Diocletian’s Palace, a huge building builit by Roman’s in the 4th century. The palace is separated from the main city by high walls and has impressive ancient architecture. It is considered to be one of the most impressive Roman ruins with up to today survived elements – the Substructures, the Jupiter’s Temple, the Saint Domnius Cathedral, the Peristyle square and others. The city’s Old Town currently is a pedestrian zone with lots of old streets and beautiful monuments such as the church and monastery of St. Frane, (13th century), the Monastery and Church of Our Lady of Health, the Archaeological Museum, the Mestrovic Gallery, the Museum of Fine Art, the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments and many more.
Split is a beautiful city with beautiful beaches, blue sea and palm trees on the coast. It is surrounded by archipelagos of the islands, which are great for a day trips and can be reached by boat during the day. In the evenings, it is worth strolling down the streets of Varos neighbourhood which is known for its narrow streets, small houses and medieval churches. Furthermore, near Varos you should visit the nearby area of Sustipan where you can find beautiful park and enjoy panoramic views of sea and islands. Another great place to visit is the Riva promenade which is filled with souvenirs shops and restaurants where you can taste Split’s traditional dishes and local wine.
