About Valencia
Valencia is a Spanish city located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea near the River Turia. The city was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century BC. It is a spectacular city with beautiful old and modern architecture, great parks and beaches. The Old Town has beautiful squares, narrow streets and many churches. Most impressive churches are the Basílica de la Mare de Deu dels Desamparados and the Valencia Cathedral (13th-15th centuries, believed to hold the Holy Grail). Furthermore, the main museums are the Museum of Modern Art, Valencia Museum of History, Military Museum and more. It’s also worth a visit to the old Mercado Central de Valencia or the former silk marketplace the La Lonja de la Seda. If you enjoy green areas it is fun to stroll through the cozy parks – Jardin del Turia (10 km long, set in the old riverbed of Turia), Jardines del Real or Albufera.
Valencia also has beautiful modern architecture. It is worth visiting the project of the famous architects Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela, The City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) in the old riverbed of Turia. The building complex consists of 5 buildings and a bridge of outstanding beauty and shapes which are spectacularly illuminated and reflected in the water. The buildings are L’Hemisferic (IMAX Cinema, Planetarium), Museu de les Ciencies Principe Felipe (Interactive Science Museum), L’Umbracle (Plant Gallery), Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia (Opera House) and L’Oceanografic (Large Oceanarium).

If you are looking for souvenirs, it is worth visiting the shops on the streets of Calle Jorge Juan, Calle Colon, Calle don Juan Austria.
