Pula is the largest city in the Istrian peninsula in Croatia with a mild climate, sunny beaches and warm sea. It is a city with a deep wine-making tradition.
Pula has a beautiful old town with famous ancient Roman historical monuments that are definitely worth seeing, such as the Temple of Augustus, the Gate of Hercules, the Arch of Sergii and the impressive Pula Arena. The amphitheatre is the best preserved ancient monument in Croatia and currently hosts festivals, concerts and exhibits archaeological findings in the dungeons. While in Croatia be sure to try traditional Croatian dishes such as Burek (flaky pastry with various fillings), Buzara (shellfish and crustaceans), Pašticada (sauerkraut), Sarma (cabbage rolls with minced meat) or local drinks such as Rakija (fruit brandy) and Pelinkovac (herbal liqueur).
