Thessaloniki is a city with a deep history, many attractions, antique and modern buildings, shopping malls, cafes and restaurants. One of the most popular sights is the White Tower (15th century, now a museum) which is also considered as the city symbol. Furthermore, there are numerous sites to explore here, such as the Church of St. Demetrios (4th century), the Cathedral Church of Hagia Sophia of Thessalonica (7th-8th centuries, one of the oldest Byzantine churches), the Arch of Galerius (3rd century), the Rotunda (Mausoleum of the Emperor Gallery III), the Modiano Market. In addition, we recommend visiting the Vlatadon Monastery (14th century) which is in the upper part of the city and can offer a beautiful view of the city. By the way, Thessaloniki has many museums with wonderful exhibits, such as the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the Ataturk Museum and others. For those who enjoy sun, sand and water there are numerous beautiful beaches near the city which can be reached within 1 hour drive by car.
Thessaloniki is a vibrant city during the evenings and nights. In the evenings, we recommend visiting the Aristotelous Square, where you can sit down in cafes and restaurants and try out traditional Greek dishes and drinks – Souvlaki (grilled meat with tzatziki), Moussaka (eggplant or potato based dish with meat), Kleftiko (slow owen baked lamb) and the Greek wine. During the nights the best place is to visit the Ladadika district where you can have fun in the cocktail bars on the rooftops of Old Town homes.
