About Morocco
The Kingdom of Morocco is a North African country near Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The area of Morocco has been inhabited since Palaeolithic times, however, the first Moroccan state formed only in the 8th century. The country was independent up to early 20th century when Spain and France divided it and established protectorates. Morocco regained independence only in mid 20th century. Furthermore, the landscape of Morocco is mostly mountainous (the Atlas mountains in the centre and the Rif in the North) with some plateaus, valleys and the Sahara desert in the South. For a long time Morocco was a bridge between Africa, the Middle East and Europe, therefore, it’s culture was influenced by various religions and ethnic groups. Morocco’s culture is a mixture of African, Berber, Jewish, European, Arabian. Culture might differ from one region to another, however, Berber and Arabic cultural influences are probably visible in all regions.
